I am always on the lookout for those sunshine moments - when something beautiful jumps out at you making your heartbeat quicken and lifting the corners of your mouth, brightening your day.  Divine looking cupcakes, gorgeous stationary, funky homewares and cleverly styled events get me every time.  I know these things will not change the world, but pretty "things" make me happy, and we have to do what makes us happy right?
Planning my wedding meant  I could look for many of these "things" and cram them all into one perfect day.  My initial searches on the net left me feeling totally overwhelmed but hugely excited and definitely wanting to have a vintage edge to my styling. However, I soon realised that this was a bit tricky for me - Perth, Western Australia, is a pretty isolated city with few vintage resources, plus I had done things a bit backwards by having children before I got married, making getting out there and spending hours scouring very difficult! So I searched the net for literally hours, and found so many amazing things that I am just dying to share! Which brings me to why I am writing this blog in the first place. My wedding was where this obsession with everything pretty really took off, so it seems fitting that I start with sharing what I found in planning this special day. But if you have already been there and done that, I am finding new things every day that can add sunshine to your life and will definitely be writing about them as well!

Choosing a theme and colour scheme - online inspiration

If you're seeking inspiration, and not only for weddings but for styling any event, before you look anywhere else, you MUST check out Style Me Pretty . Oh. My. Goodness. There are literally hundreds of gorgeous weddings to swoon over, including Australian ones, plus fantastic DIY projects.  I guarantee your head will be spinning when you look at the clock and realise how long you have been lost in the loveliness of this site.  Some other beautiful sites are Green Wedding ShoesRuffled, and Polkadot Bride.  Once you have looked at these sites the hardest thing will be to choose just one theme out of the many options, and then sticking to it when you come across other good ideas.

Vintage styled weddings

Props

Once I'd settled on a theme I was on the hunt for "props". Although I loved examples of vintage styling I couldn't go all out because the reception was being held in a fairly modern building.
The first of many beautiful ideas I came across on Style Me Pretty was a drinks trolley set up pre or post ceremony with an old fashioned glass drinks dispenser filled with traditional lemonade.  My chosen colour scheme was yellow, grey and white and I thought some slices of lemon floating in the lemonade would look fabulous and fit in perfectly.  However, at the time, these drinks dispensers were only available online and the postage cost was more than the item you were buying! So that idea had to be shelved, but I would  still love to do it one day because it just looks so gorgeous.

Lately I have seen them at Kitchen Warehouse and Home Provedore and you can still get them online at The Little Big Company and Little Dance Invitations among others.
Instead I decided to use San Pellegrino Limonata bottles and yellow stripey straws.  We found an old wooden ammunition box at an op shop and a vintage looking table on ebay:

Stripey straws seem to be everywhere now and come in a rainbow of colours; if you're having trouble finding them, anywhere that sells Paper Eskimo should have them or I bought mine online from Emerald and Ella.

We were very lucky that the best man's father restores vintage cars and trucks, and was exceptionally generous in lending us this gorgeous truck, which is the best vintage prop we had!

In terms of vintage styling, you could really go crazy.  A Perth based website I stumbled upon called Her Handpicked Harvest is an absolute goldmine  - you can hire all things vintage from chairs, crockery and even games.  All the hard work sourcing has been done for you!
